The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of the Police Officers who have died in the line of duty. The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial.

The Police Unity Tour started in 1997 with only 18 riders who raised over $18,000. Over 1300 law enforcement officers from across the country participated in 2011 and raised $1.5 million. The Police Unity Tour in its 15 year history has raised nearly $10 million. Each rider, motor, and support person is responsible to raise a minimum of $1800 in donations to participate.
